The fuzzification comprises the process of transforming crisp values into grades of membership for linguistic terms of fuzzy sets. The membership function is used to associate a grade to each linguistic term.

Example 16.1.1   For the fuzzification of the car speed value the two membership functions and from Figure 16.2 can be used, which characterise a low and a medium speed fuzzy set, respectively. The given speed value of belongs with a grade of to the fuzzy set ``low'' and with a grade of to the fuzzy set ``medium''.
